Don't Starve: Shipwrecked Announced (Blaugust Day 3)

Rhymes with Play

Since playing several hours of Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together, I've always admired how Klei Entertainment pronounces its name. Their constant repeating of the fact that it rhymes with 'play' almost distracted me from the fact that Klei instead rhyming with 'die' would almost fit two of their three titles better (I've heard Invisible, Inc. was great, but I haven't yet tried it).

And, oh look, they're up to a 'rhymes with die' situation again. Here's a thought: Klim, rhymes with swim...

Red Sky At Morning...

In my sleepy stupor after having finger-knit a six-foot-long scarf last night into the early hours while waiting to hear that Glow landed in Reykjavik, I happened to see a Tweet detailing an expansion to the single-player version of Don't Starve (singleplayer) and how it was scheduled to hit in the fall.

I blinked. Still wasn't awake.

Blinked again. Considered my next Blaugust post.

Blinked.

...and then it set in. My eyes widened, and my jaw dropped. No way! Sailing around? Sharky things!? How in the biome would I ever get the number of wooden planks before getting destroyed by something on land!? It sounded insane, and it still does. Then again, this sounds like just the thing the game needs to spruce things up. One thing that annoys me when traveling is getting to a large expanse of water in a world, requiring me to trek all the way around for an item and risk going through a swamp or spacebar-opening an icebox. But will I be able to survive something like...this?

Let's Set Sail

For Klei (and as well for Capy, a company working alongside them for the expansion), expanding the single-player version of their already immensely popular game is a great move. Rein of Giants did very well, and adding more biomes is a great way to keep people excited about the game. Adding something like this to the multiplayer would be interesting...pirate ship, anyone?

Anyways, I'm super tired. I'll be putting out a costuming post sometime this week. Don't go insane while I'm away.

  1. How about Klown, rhymes with drown? I will be quite sad if there isn't a tentacled sea monster in Shipwrecked... and maybe amphibious landsharks?

    1. Oooh, amphibious landsharks...

I wonder how many new biomes we'll be getting. And what about sandbars?

  2. I guess I need to go back and play this some more. I haven't really touched it since it was still in beta.

    1. I honestly like playing Don't Starve Together more, since the chaos of the game is a lot more fun when sharing it with people. If you get it and want to play sometime, shoot me your Steam nick on Twitter. :)

  3. I really need to play Don't Starve more. I always enjoy it when I do, though I don't tend to live very long. A Shipwrecked expansion sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. Thanks for the post on it - will be keeping my on this one. :)

    1. Reminds me of when I had a really good survival on stream...then left the game going without realizing it (until I checked back to find out I'd died). I'll post again when it comes out and I play it. :)

  4. Agh, I haven't played this in so long! I'm going to have to get back into it, I do enjoy the game very much. I was waiting for a friend of mine to want to play together, and I seem to have let the game sit in the meantime. Shipwreck seems like a neat addition.
